Harper joined our family Wednesday morning and has brought us so much joy since then. Although his big brother, Owen, was not entirely sure he would accept a boy baby, he’s come to the conclusion that, “I’ve changed my mind. I like Harper.”
As you might imagine, I have my hands full now so there will most likely be a pause on blogging for a bit. I will be checking email and voice mail so please feel free to contact me and I will get back to you in a [relatively] timely manner. I plan to start shooting again in mid-March or so, but we’ll have to play that by ear too.
I’m very excited to show a few new albums I am carrying: the Linen soft-page book, and the new Little Kisses. It’s from the same company as my leather-bound albums that come with most of my packages, Kiss Wedding Books (watch the video at this link to see a discussion of the differences in albums.)
They now offer a hardback linen album that has flexible pages vs. the hard ones in the leather albums. These are about half the cost of the leather albums, but have the same beautiful printing. They make great parent albums and are a less expensive option for bride and grooms during these financially burdened times. I still highly recommend you purchase an album with your package since I know first-hand that if you don’t do it right away, it gets put on the back burner.
The other album shown here (green) is the new version of the Little Kisses. These measure 4″x4″, come in either a leather cover or linen cover, fit perfectly in your purse with a canvas bag for protection and also make a great gift for your family/attendants.
Both of these are classic ways to display your baby and family photos as well!
Don’t just get beautiful pictures made, show them off!
Now and again, an artist covers a song that rivals the original (case in point: Sweet Jane.) M. Ward has done it here with a cover of David Bowie’s Let’s Dance. Definitely not your ‘traditional’ first dance/love song, but I believe an excellent one nonetheless.
Let’s dance
Put on your red shoes and dance the blues
Let’s dance
To the song they’re playin’ on the radio
Let’s sway
While colour lights up your face
Let’s sway
Sway through the crowd to an empty space
If you say run, I’ll run with you
If you say hide, we’ll hide
Because my love for you
Would break my heart in two
If you should fall
Into my arms
And tremble like a flower
Let’s dance
For fear your grace should fall
Let’s dance
For fear tonight is all
Let’s sway
You could look into my eyes
Let’s sway
Under the moonlight, this serious moonlight
If you say run, I’ll run with you
If you say hide, we’ll hide
Because my love for you
Would break my heart in two
If you should fall
Into my arms
And tremble like a flower
This is AJ. He’s 10 weeks old and a hefty 11 pounds. He decided to enter this world a bit prematurely, but has definitely made up for it and become his mama’s “big fat baby.” I knew this little one’s mom from high school and it was such a fun shoot to catch up between snacks and outfit changes. Surprisingly, this little guy stayed awake for most of the shoot. His parents think it might be the longest he’d ever been awake…and he did a stellar job. We didn’t want him knocking out too early, so he had little snacks instead of one big bottle. But in the end, he just couldn’t keep his eyes open and snuggled into mom and dad to fall fast asleep (which is always a good time to pose newborns.)
For my next love song recommend, I have to thank my brother-in-law, Josh. This year, “Santa” put a great mix CD in our stockings and this song was on it. We have really similar taste in music and since he’s way more cool than I am these days, it’s good to get introduced to new music from him. I loved this song the first time I heard it and I think the lyrics say it all. Grab your sweetheart and get ready to tap a foot.
Alabama, Arkansas, I do love my Ma & Pa
Not the way that I do love you
Holy moly, me, oh my, you’re the apple of my eye
Girl, I’ve never loved one like you
Man, oh man, you’re my best friend, I scream it to the nothingness
There ain’t nothin’ that I need
Well, hot & heavy, pumpkin pie, chocolate candy, Jesus Christ
There ain’t nothin’ please me more than you
Chorus:
Ahh, Home
Let me come Home
Home is wherever I’m with you
Ahh, Home
Let me come Home
Home is whenever I’m with you
La la la la, take me Home
Mama, I’m coming Home
I’ll follow you into the park, through the jungle, through the dark
Girl, I’ve never loved one like you
Moats & boats & waterfalls, alley ways & pay phone calls
I’ve been everywhere with you
That’s true
We laugh until we think we’ll die, barefoot on a summer night
Never could be sweeter than with you
And in the sticks we’re running free like it’s only you and me
Geez, you’re something to see.
Chorus
“Jade?”
“Alexander?”
“Do you remember that day you fell out of my window?”
“I sure do, you came jumping out after me.”
“Well, you fell on the concrete and nearly broke your ass and you were bleeding all over the place and I rushed you off to the hospital. Do you remember that?”
“Yes, I do.”
“Well, there’s something I never told you about that night.”
“What didn’t you tell me?”
“While you were sitting in the backseat smoking a cigarette you thought was gonna to be your last, I was falling deep, deeply in love with you and I never told you ‘til just now.”
Chorus
Home
Let me come Home
Home is wherever I’m with you
Ahh, Home
Yes, I am Home
Home is when I’m alone with you.
Alabama, Arkansas, I do love my Ma & Pa
Moats & boats & waterfalls & pay phone calls
Ahh, Home
Let me come Home
Home is wherever I’m with you
Ahh, Home
Let me come Home
Home is when I’m alone with you
I think they’ll be here any day now! For those of you who don’t know, Kara is my sister due with her first babies in a month, the same time I’m due with my second. The wonderful part is that she and Mike are having twins! It’s an exciting time around here as we await the arrival of three new family members.
I got to photograph them the other day and here are a handful of my favorites…
A favorite of mine, and the perfect ending to the movie, High Fidelity….
I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever) by Stevie Wonder
Shattered dreams, worthless years,
Here am I encased inside a hollow shell,
Life began, then was done,
Now I stare into a cold and empty well
The many sounds that meet our ears
the sights our eyes behold,
Will open up our merging hearts,
And feed our empty souls
I believe when I fall in love with you it will be forever,
I believe when I fall in love this time it will be forever
Without despair we will share,
And the joys of caring will not be replaced,
What has been must never end
And with the strength we have won’t be erased
When the truths of love are planted firm,
They won’t be hard to find,
And the words of love I speak to you
will echo in your mind
I believe when I fall in love with you it will be forever,
I believe when I fall in love this time it will be forever
I believe when I fall in love with you it will be forever,
I believe when I fall in love with you it will be forever
I’m so glad that I found someone to believe in again,
I’m so glad that I found someone to believe in again
God surely answered my prayer,
God surely answered by prayer,
You know God surely answered my prayer,
You know God surely answered my prayer,
God always will answer your prayers,
Believe in one who will answer my prayer,
Thank you God
Come on, let’s fall in love,
You’re the woman I’ve been waiting for,
Come on, let’s fall in love,
You’re the girl that I really adore,
Come on, let’s fall in love…
I just wanted to share this video with you about Mia’s progress over the last 2 years. This is a wonderful story! If you’d like to see the photos I took back when she was just a little pea in the NICU as well as some earlier updates, go here.
Sue hosted a baby shower for my sister a few weeks ago and I got to see her again. She came in at the end when Kara was opening gifts, and she just smiled at all of the women and worked the crowd like a pro. And she has an amazing smile.
